At University of Missouri Health Care Heart and Vascular Center, we believe your heart deserves caring treatment for all the hard work it does.
Whether you have varicose veins or need treatment for a serious heart condition, you’ll receive the highest quality care at MU Health Care. Our cardiologists are with you every step of the way, from diagnosis to treatment to rehabilitation.
We offer more heart and vascular services than any other center in mid-Missouri and care for a wide range of conditions, including arrhythmias, peripheral artery disease, valve disease and heart attacks. You can rely on our cardiologists to deliver personalized, thorough care.
Advanced heart and vascular care at MU Health Care
At MU Health Care Heart and Vascular Center, you have access to the newest medical breakthroughs in cardiovascular care. Our accomplished physicians participate in research that results in new medicines and procedures that help patients in Missouri and across the country.
As a patient at an academic health center, you benefit from the latest research, treatments and technologies in heart and vascular care. We are on the leading edge of cardiac care, providing advanced treatments that aren’t widely available.
We were the first hospital in central Missouri to implant an MRI-friendly defibrillator and the first to offer a variety of services, including:
- Radiation-free cardiac stress tests and imaging using advanced MRI technology
- Radiation free ablation for cardiac arrhythmia
- Ablation for atrial fibrillation
- The latest leadless implantable pacemaker
- Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), a minimally invasive valve replacement procedure
- Left atrial appendage closure procedure to guard against AFib-related strokes
For vascular disease, we offer minimally invasive procedures for peripheral artery disease, limb ischemia and other blood vessel conditions.
Heart and vascular team approach for complex conditions
Our cardiologists work with MU Health Care experts from a variety of specialties to improve heart health in patients with complex conditions. This team approach to care — involving physicians, surgeons, nurses, care coordinators and more — helps promote better health outcomes no matter your condition.
As a Level I Trauma Center, we give you and your loved ones fast care for the most severe emergencies, 24/7. Our cardiothoracic surgeons work alongside trauma surgeons to quickly repair the heart and lungs, reconnect or close blood vessels, and perform other lifesaving procedures.
Onco-Cardiology Care
When cancer treatments affect your heart, our physicians provide onco-cardiology care at the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center. We team up with your cancer doctors to care for your heart before, during and after cancer treatment. Our goal is to prevent heart damage caused by cancer treatments and manage care for patients who are fighting both cancer and heart disease. Our multidisciplinary onco-cardiology services are becoming more important every year as more patients beat cancer.
Care Team for Advanced Coronary Artery Disease
Our heart and vascular experts partner with primary care physicians and geriatricians throughout the community to manage advanced coronary artery disease. We work with your physicians to develop a personalized treatment plan based on your current health, age and other factors. Through these partnerships, you receive individualized attention and management while having access to the latest treatments.
Fast treatment for heart attacks
During a heart attack, every second matters. Our MU Health Care heart attack teams provide fast, lifesaving care. Our Staff for Life program – the only emergency flight program in the region – transports patients from across mid-Missouri to our facility for fast care.
Before you arrive at the hospital, our teams are ready to care for you. On average, it takes only 47 minutes for you to arrive at the hospital, go through the emergency department, enter a cardiac catheterization lab and receive treatment to unblock the artery causing your heart attack. This time is well below the national goal of 90 minutes. Our ability to deliver fast care means a better outcome for your heart.
