Blue Distinction Centers
Through the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program, MU Health Care bariatrics, cardiology, spine surgery, and kidney transplant programs have been recognized as a Blue Distinction Center for its proven expertise, high quality care and patient results. Our obstetrics and gynecology program has been designated a Blue Distinction Center Plus.
MU Health Care also has several awards and accreditations for our specialty areas.
Bariatrics
University Hospital is MBSAQIP Accredited – Comprehensive Center, and its bariatric surgery team is one of the top in the nation. MU Health Care’s bariatrics team is also a Blue Distinction Specialty Care program, a member of the Institutes of Quality as designated by Aetna, and an Optum Bariatric Resources Services Centers of Excellence program member.
Breast Care
Our breast care center has received full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). This means our center is committed to the highest level of quality breast care and was awarded this accreditation by the American College of Surgeons.
Gastroenterology
The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) has recognized MU Health Care’s Missouri Digestive Health Center with the ASGE Endoscopy Unit Quality Recognition Award. The award recognizes endoscopy centers that promote quality and safety in accordance with ASGE guidelines.
Neurosciences
Stroke
The Missouri Stroke Program has been certified as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission.
In 2015, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services designated the Missouri Stroke Program one of the state’s first Level I Missouri State Time Critical Diagnosis Centers, the highest recognition a hospital can receive for its stroke program.
The Missouri Stroke Program has received the Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award from Get With The Guidelines®, a hospital-based quality improvement program developed by the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association.
The Missouri Stroke Program has also been named to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Target: Stroke Honor Roll.
Epilepsy
The Missouri Epilepsy Program is recognized by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers as a Level 4 epilepsy center.
Ophthalmology
University of Missouri Health Care received Saving Sight’s 2016 Excellence in Eye Donation Award. Created in 2014, the Excellence in Eye Donation Award recognizes hospitals that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to eye donation. Overall, the health system achieved a 53 percent consent rate for eye donation in 2016. Staff at MU Health Care helped to facilitate 65 eye donation cases, which resulted in 76 individuals receiving restored sight through a cornea transplant.
Surgery
The American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) has recognized University of Missouri Health Care for the quality of its surgical care. MU Health Care is one of just 56 hospitals nationwide and the only hospital in Missouri to receive the honor for both high-risk and routine cases, ensuring patients receive advanced, quality surgical care from mid-Missouri’s largest specialized surgical team.
